Q: How do I take a course on BDS University?

A: From the top menu bar, select the “Course Catalog” tab. Once there you can select between Required/Optional and Incomplete/Complete to see which course categories are available to you. Expand any category to see the list of courses. Click the link for the course and it will automatically begin the course for you. You can also use the search bar in the Course Catalog to find a course based on a key term. Alternatively, if you have any required courses showing on your Learner Dashboard, you can click on the “Go To Required” button which will take you to the Course Catalog and automatically expand the category you selected.

Q: Can I use any browser to complete courses on BDS University? 

A: BDS University works best on Google Chrome and Internet Explorer. If you are using another browser and are experiencing issues with the site, try switching to one of these browsers.

Q: Does BDS University support mobile devices? 

A: At this time, BDS University is not yet optimized for mobile devices (smartphones and tablets). We continue to recommend users complete courses using a desktop/laptop solution.

Q: How do I find the courses required for my position? 

A: The courses required for your position are listed on the “Learner Dashboard” tab. You can also find these courses on the “Course Catalog” tab – make sure you select “Required” on the left of the page and “Incomplete” on the top of the page.

Q: What is the Learner Dashboard?

A: The Learner Dashboard is your own personal learning profile which tracks your completion of all the required courses for your position. These required courses make up the BDSU portion of your overall learning curriculum. A curriculum is developed by your management team to train you and teach you the skills needed in your new role. It typically consists of a variety of the following; online courses, live webinars, classroom style, and training guides.

Q: How long should I expect to spend on completing each course?

A: It depends on the course, but the good news is we won't keep you guessing! Each course has a length of time associated with it in its description. Our courses range in time from 1 minute to more than 1 hour, however you will notice that most are around 10-15 minutes. Keep in mind, that it also depends on the type of learner you are and if you like to take notes or go slower, you may take longer in completion.

Q: What if I get interrupted and I cannot finish the course in one sitting?

A: We highly recommend that you set aside at a minimum, the listed time when completing a course, which is uninterrupted. This way you can focus on the topic you are trying to learn, and ensure highest success in learning retention. However, if you do have to leave a course before completion, the course will appear as "In Progress" in your Course Catalog. Just go back in and finish up later! Make sure to close the course properly when you leave so that the course will resume at the correct part of the course. Every course has a close button within the course window to leave the course.

Q: Once I complete a course, do I have to take any kind of exam to test my knowledge?

A: Almost all our courses have a quiz to take which will pop up upon your completion of your course. The course quizzes will usually have 5 - 10 questions relating to the topic you learned about in your course. To complete a course and get your Certificate of Completion, you must pass the Quiz.

Q: May I take other courses, even if they are not considered required for my position?

A: Yes, we have plenty of courses on a range of topics available to employees as Optional courses. Simply go to your Course Catalog and select Optional on the left of the page to see what other courses are available to you. Note: Hourly employees are not paid for completing optional courses.

Q: How am I paid for the time I spend taking these courses (Hourly Employees ONLY)?

A: The time estimate listed for the course will automatically be added to your time for that pay period upon successful completion of a required course (passing the course and receiving a certificate of completion). Please contact your direct supervisor if you have further questions about this process.

Q: How do I know I’ve successfully completed a course?

A: At the end of the course, it will show that you passed the course. Once you properly close the course, you should also receive an email with your certificate of completion and the course will move to the Completed section of your Course Catalog. If you do NOT receive the certificate of completion and/or still see the course under your Incomplete courses it is likely the course did not register as complete in our database.

Q: The course quiz says I did not pass, will I still be credited for completing the course?

A: No. To successfully complete a course, you must pass the course quiz. You will need to retake the course and receive a passing score.

Q: I successfully passed a course, but it is not registering as complete.

A: First, make sure you are using the proper login information. You should be logging in using the same username and password as Insight:Center. Using login information from another site (such as BDS Talent Center) will mean your completion is not reflected in reports.

After passing a course, you must make sure the course is properly closed for the passing score to register with our database. When you reach the results screen, make sure you click the Exit button or the close button and allow the Course Catalog to fully refresh to ensure your completion is successfully logged.

Shutting down your computer with the passing screen still open will cause even a passing score to not register in our system. In addition, if you have the same course open in multiple windows/tabs and you receive a passing score in one window, even after properly closing the course, it will not register a successful completion.

Q: I am having an issue with BDS University. Where can I go for help?

A: If you are experiencing an issue with the BDS University website or a specific course, you can email us at BDS.University@bdsmktg.com. When you send the email, please make sure to provide the following information so that we can more quickly address your issue:

  • Your full name
  • Name of course(s) you are experiencing the issue in
  • Brief description of the issue you are experiencing
  • What operating system and Internet browser you are using
  • A screenshot of the issue (if necessary)
